Organization
The organization of the Eleuthèros Project and how it is possible to cooperate with the Project.
Project Management
The goals of the Eleuthèros Project are those defined in its Manifesto. Besides engaging in activities like conferences, seminars, classes and presentations at any level, Eleuthèros publishes tutorials, recommendations and studies of several kinds in order to promote the concrete realization of its goal within the Catholic Church. These documents may be written by the Eleuthèros staff or provided as one time contributions by external individuals or organizations. The latter form of contribution is particularly welcome when it consists of translations in other languages of the main documents.
The Eleuthèros Project is managed by the Staff described in the next paragraph. The choice of which activities should be carried on, which documents should be published on this website as well as, in general, any decision related to the nature, management and long term goals of the Project is the Staff’ responsibility. It is however possible to participate in Eleuthèros in several ways, described in the rest of this document.
Eleuthèros Staff
The Staff of the Eleuthèros Project is made of Catholics concretely involved in the Project activities. A separate page lists all the current Eleuthèros staff members. No prior specific Information Technology skills or ecclesial titles are required to be a Staff Member. In order for a candidate to be accepted, however, it is mandatory that he or she:
- is Catholic
- fully approves the Eleuthèros Manifesto
- can guarantee a concrete and continuous participation not only to the relevant mailing lists, but also, and more importantly, to all the other Project activities (publications, internal meetings, external events…)
When there is a candidate, those who already are Staff Members e admission of new members decide by voting whether he or she should be accepted. All nominations must be properly motivated and presented by a Staff Member.
If needed, the Staff will assign or delegate specific tasks to some of its Members. In addition to this, should it be needed, the Staff will appoint coordinators or intermediaries between the Staff and the communities of Eleuthèros supporters who don’t speak Italian.
On Constituting an Association
At the moment Eleutheros is just an informal association. However, the possibility to create a real, formal association
will be evaluated in the near future.
Unity of all Catholics and involvement from outside Italy
Eleuthèros is born as an Italian project and it is likely that, at least in the short and medium term, almost all its activities will take place in Italy, but this is only due to the fact that the first people who met to discuss such an initiative were all Italians.
On the other hand, the Catholic Church is One: fragmenting the studies and activities for a Catholic approach to ICT in many independent projects would be really counterproductive, if not harmful. Therefore, Eleuthèros considers its essential duty to guarantee and promote the unity and cooperation of all Catholics in this field, wherever they live. This applies to all the levels of engagement described in the following paragraph.
